City of Westminster and Holborn Law Society Annual Dinner
at Middle Temple Hall

March 2009

It is always a great honour to be included in prestigious events - this year as guests of Mr and Mrs Jeffrey Forrest, my wife and I were privileged to attend Middle Temple Hall. This must surely be one of the finest halls in London and was the setting for the first night of Shakespeare's play "Twelfth Night" in 1602. The top table is made from planks from one huge slab of oak and is one of the longest tables in England. It dates back many hundreds of years. The stained glass window in the Great Hall has the family crest of a certain Mr Robertus Hyde and also has a blue and yellow shield of someone called Josephus Jekyll. The window, legend has it, was the inspiration for the famous book "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" published in 1886. There were many important lawyers and personalities at the dinner and the main guest of honour and main speaker was the Treasury Solicitor. Amongst the guests were Ed Solomons chief legal adviser of Metropolitan Police, Peter Williamson, Chairman of the Solicitors Regulation Authority and of course his son-in-law Adrian Barham who is the President of the City of Westminster and Holborn Law Society this year who with his wife hosted this magnificent dinner which was greatly enjoyed by all those attending.
